cactus mug
Would you rather spend your morning sipping coffee and murmuring to your favorite plants? Then this mug is for you! I combined my favorite mug shape with a special technique I've developed that creates little cactus pricks, and the result are these gorgeous cactus mugs. A special addition to your handmade mug collection, or a perfect gift for that succulent crazy plant lover who has everything.
These stoneware mugs are medium sized, they hold about 12 oz. The tiny pricks on the exterior of the mug are sharp and pokey, just like real cactus pricks, so while the shape of the mug is lovely to hold in your hands, be careful!
MATERIALS & PROCESS
~Each of these handmade, ceramic mugs started as a soft lump of clay. They were thrown on a potter's wheel, and tiny bits of wet clay called slip were added to create the prickly exterior. The hand-pulled handle is attached and the mug is then kiln-fired. A matte green glaze is applied and the pieces are kiln-fired again, reaching up to 2300° F.
~Because each mug is handmade, each is unique and celebrates the beauty of the earth from which it was formed. The little individualities and quirks are what makes it special, just like cactuses.
