ceramic lithops
Everyone's favorite strange succulents, now forever in ceramic stoneware. Lithops are known as "living stones" and in nature look like small rocks peeking out of the sand in pairs. If you've ever had a real one, you know that they are notoriously hard to care for, and this adorable phase is rather fleeting. I have captured the odd, alien-like beauty of these creatures with clay so now they are yours to enjoy forever. Each lithops arrangement is unique with its own personality of muted tones and textures just like lithops in nature. But these need no light, no water, no care whatsoever! Black thumb approved. __________________________________
MATERIALS & PROCESS Each lithops is sculpted by hand in my home studio. After they are rounded and shaped, they are allowed to dry slowly. After drying, the ceramic pieces are bisque fired in a kiln, then glazed and fired again up to 2300 degrees F. The ceramic lithops are then assembled with a pot I have thrown by hand on the potters' wheel, dried and also kiln-fired twice. The final touch is sand from Laguna Beach here in Southern California. Made of stoneware, this mini-sculpture is sturdy and weather-resistant. It can even be displayed outside to compliment patio decor. INCLUDED: ceramic lithops arranged in a hand-thrown mini-pot, wrapped tightly for shipment with a small bag of extra sand __________________________________
