soda fired ceramic stud earrings
Allow me to geek out about pottery for a second... The unique coloration of these earrings is the product the magical process of soda firing, where during the firing process, liquified soda is introduced into the kiln environment and becomes atmospheric, distributing glaze and other chemical components across the ceramic pieces, resulting in a depth of finish not found any other way. For these earrings, that means a gorgeous crackled green pool floats on a dark brown rim. It reminds me of the veins on a leaf... truly extraordinary. _________________________________
MATERIALS & PROCESS Each of these handmade, ceramic earrings started as a soft lump of dark clay. They were formed by hand, then fired twice in a kiln, reaching up to 2300° F. Stainless steel posts are then added with jewelry safe glue. _________________________________
